Google PageRank Update In Progress – At Last!

by Jay Fleischman on September 28, 2007

For those of you who monitor your web site position, you will be pleased to know that sources are reporting that Google is in the midst of a PageRank update.

Some have kicked around the idea that PageRank was being scratched by Google, primarily because of the importance many text link brokers place on it. For those of us who generate blog income from services that sell link ads, PageRank plays an important part in spite of the fact that it’s an awful predictor of a site’s popularity. Still, ad broker services rely on these tools for assessing how much money to charge for advertising.

More important, however, is the credence that visitors give to PageRank. A visitor to a site with a PageRank of 3 will most likely give it less weight that one with a PageRank of 6. Remember, it isn’t how smart you are sometimes so much as the cut of your suit.
